Filosofia Yoga

La parola Yoga deriva dalla radice sanscrita «Yug» che significa unire, legare assieme, soggiogare, dirigere e concentrare l’attenzione. Significa anche unione in perfetto equilibrio di tutte le componenti del nostro essere: corpo, mente, spirito.

In un antico testo vedico lo yoga viene descritto come segue: “Quando i sensi si sono calmati, quando la mente riposa, quando l’intelletto non tentenna, allora, dice il saggio, il più alto stadio è raggiunto. Questo costante controllo dei sensi e della mente è stato definito Yoga. Chi raggiunge tale controllo è libero dalla delusione”.

Lo yoga non è una tecnica, non si limita all’esecuzione di posizioni o esercizi di respirazione ma, attraverso di essi, agisce su un livello più profondo il cui obiettivo è l’unione tra il corpo e la mente, tra l’individuo e la coscienza universale.

I benefici che derivano dallo Yoga sono solo in parte di natura fisica, dal momento che una pratica costante rafforza la nostra struttura muscolare e ossea, ma, soprattutto, di natura mentale in quanto una pratica costante aumenta la consapevolezza di sé ed un senso di calma e benessere generale come dimostrano molti studi che promuovono questa disciplina non solo nella vita privata, ma anche sul luogo di lavoro o in programmi di recupero.

Lo Yoga è un percorso verso la spiritualità ed il raggiungimento della pace interiore e della felicità, tant’è che Patanjali nel suo “Yoga Sutra”, uno dei più importanti testi dello Yoga classico, organizza tale percorso in otto stadi o otto rami:

  1. Yama (principi etici e morali universali)
  2. Niyama (linee guida personali)
  3. Asana (posture)
  4. Pranayama (controllo del respiro)
  5. Pratyahara (ritrazione dei sensi)
  6. Dharana (concentrazione)
  7. Dhyana (meditazione)
  8. Samadhi (stato di grazia, contemplazione)
